Why does God promise peace and deliver suffering?

“That peace from God…doesn’t exclude trials,” says Marcel Serabungo, an internationally recognized Pastor and Peacemaker for World Relief in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Sometimes we can adopt a skewed definition of peace. We can mistakenly expect peace from God to come in the form of physical and emotional comfort. “God’s peace is a spiritual peace which helps us to face even very hard difficulties.”

What is unique about World Relief?

“World Relief, being a Christian organization…works through the church,” says Marcel Serabungo, an internationally recognized Pastor and Peacemaker for World Relief in the Democratic Republic of Congo. World Relief always uses local churches to do its work, relying on the development and education of churches and pastors to minister to a region. “We empower the church; we train the church so that church leaders are able to lead in a proper way.”

Can being at peace hurt people around me?

“Your peace must bring peace others,” says Marcel Serabungo, an internationally recognized Pastor and Peacemaker for World Relief in the Democratic Republic of Congo. “The peace which hurts others [is] not peace.” If our peace or joy are causing pain, we aren’t fulfilling our responsibility as Christians to bring God’s kingdom of peace and justice to the world.
