Balancing Time, Energy & Money in Ministry
“Pray a lot,” encourages Linda VanVoorst, Director of Justice Kids and Director of Children’s Ministry at Antioch Church in Bend, OR, “many times God answers that prayer and gives me the ability to do something that, on paper, doesn’t make sense.” When everything seems too much our best option is to look to God and ask for His guidance. “God either says ‘Yes this is something you’re supposed to do’ or ‘Nope, this isn’t something you’re supposed to do.’”
How do we teach kids about injustice?
“Basic fundamental justice theology – what God desires – will aid them as they understand injustices,” explains Linda VanVoorst, Director of Justice Kids and Director of Children’s Ministry at Antioch Church in Bend, OR. Teaching a child about tragic or gruesome injustices can scare them. To effectively teach children about injustice we must first teach them a right understanding of justice.
How do we keep kids from hating church?
“[Find out] whatever kids think is fun [then] just figure out how to make it purposefully and do it on Sunday morning,” states Linda VanVoorst, Director of Justice Kids and Director of Children’s Ministry at Antioch Church in Bend, OR. The easiest way to find out what kids like is to ask them. Once you’ve done that, put meaning to the game, and you’ve just made church both fun and meaningful.
