Nathan George :: Should we ONLY buy fair trade?

  • “I think, yes,” says Nathan George, Founder of Trade As One. “I know it is not possible to survive and clothe yourself and do everything that God would have you do in North America by only buying fair trade…but should we be consuming less? Absolutely.” Because of the amount Americans consume, we have a very difficult time wrapping our minds around the idea of extreme poverty. “As believers, we have a great opportunity to influence those conversations,” says Keith Wright, International President of Food for the Hungry. We shouldn’t expect an adjustment toward more just consumption to be comfortable, but we can expect it to be rewarding. “There is profound joy at self-sacrificial giving that way.”
