Michael McBride :: How do we change laws dealing with mass incarceration?

  • “Mass incarceration…does not start when individuals commit a particular crime,” answers Michael McBride, Executive Director of Berkeley Organizing Congregations for Action and Lead Pastor of The Way Christian Center in Berkeley, CA. Statistically there exists a pipeline from the schools to the prisons, thus on the local level we can push for “the implementation of restorative justice discipline practices.” Many county jails are filled with people who are held in jail awaiting trail. To approach this, we can push for speedy trail dates and pre-trail hearings. “At some point, we have to make a decision as a society, where are we willing to put our money?”
