Melissa McCreery :: What if professors don’t care about justice or character development?

  • What do we do when professors and teachers have lost their heart for justice or character development? “You absolutely have to make sure you have teachers that have that heart,” says Melissa McCreery, Vice President of Development at Kilns College in Bend, OR. “Everything trickles down.” The process begins by imbuing justice into the education of teachers and professors themselves, as well as making justice and character development a priority in the hiring process. “Maybe we rethink professor/teacher tenure requirements.” Instead of marking success by the number of journal articles published, we should be marking success by student engagement and development.
