Ken Wytsma :: What is the role of empathy in Christian living?

  • “Empathy is…a part of the image of God in us,” says Ken Wytsma, Founder of The Justice Conference and President of Kilns College. “Something about what it means to be human, made in the image of God, involves empathy.” Empathy occurs when we can enter into another person’s physical or emotional reality and feel what they feel. Feeling another person’s pain arouses our compassion and allows us to better value them. “Empathy allows us to be in relationship at an emotional or spiritual level with other people and with God.”
