Ken Wytsma :: Can we always overcome temptation?

  • “That’s a very thorny question,” says Ken Wytsma, Pastor of Antioch Church and Founder of The Justice Conference. Addictions, cultural environment, and our past can increase or decrease a temptation’s power over us. “Usually when we succumb to something, we’re at the long tail of a series of choices and decisions.” It certainly seems that some people reach a point where they are so tempted that they can’t resist temptation, but they usually reach that point after succumbing to a series of lighter temptations which could have easily been overcome. “I do think that we can overcome temptation; I think we need to pattern ourselves that way…I don’t think we’re going to reach perfection this side of glory.”

I Corinthians 10:13 – “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”
