Ken Wytsma :: Calvinism vs. Arminianism

  • Debates like ‘Reformed Theology vs. Dispensationalism’ and ‘Calvinism vs. Arminianism’ divide and confuse Christians as often as they provide them with clarity. “I spent the first however many years of being Christian absorbed in this,” says Ken Wytsma, Founder of The Justice Conference and President of Kilns College. Ken’s mentors buried him under the ‘Calvinism vs. Arminianism’ debate while he was deciding where to go to Seminary, even though he was a frat boy and had just become a Christian. “I look back at it now and I think to myself, ‘What were they thinking’?”

After detailing the differences between Calvinism and Arminianism, he concludes: “At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter.” Both Calvinists and Arminians are concerned for the health and salvation of a person that is buried in sin. More importantly, the particular brand of theology we prefer is less important than our identity in Christ. “I’m not a Calvinist, I’m a Christian…I’m not an Arminian, I’m a Christian.”
