Ken Wytsma :: Does American Christianity correctly understand heaven?

  • “Eternal life begins when we come into relationship with God, not when we die,” says Ken Wytsma, President of Kilns College and Pastor of Antioch Church in Bend, OR. N.T. Wright explains how revivalism shaped America’s cultural consciousness with regard to their view of heaven. Over time, America leaned toward a more Greek understanding of heaven, and less of a Jewish understanding. “We have to wrestle with the metaphors we’re given in Scripture, if we do we avoid being on either extreme and end up with a balanced or humble view of the afterlife.”
