“The pressure that students have today seemingly is greater than when I was in school,” says H.D. Weddel, High School Principal and Chaplain of the Oregon State University Football Team. The pressure to succeed academically, musically, athletically, etc. is not only more intense than it used to be, but begins earlier and is sustained longer. One of the results is that teenage drug and alcohol abuse has become less about pleasure and experimentation and more about escape and relief.
