Gerry Breshears :: Why do many people say that Christians should always forgive?

  • Many people take Matthew 18:21-22 out of context leading to the mistaken teaching that Christians should always forgive. Dr. Gerry Breshears, Author and Professor of Theology at Western Seminary, explains “If you put that in context […] there is actually a process to go through that says watch myself, go to the person, point out their sin, and then the forgiveness happens.” Some people say we should always forget the offense; however, we should instead point them towards grace. “We do not forget the offense; [instead] we don’t actively remember it.”
