Gerry Breshears :: Interpreting Romans 9

  • “It’s a history lesson showing that God is faithful to his sinful people,” advises Dr. Gerry Breshears, Professor of Theology at Western Seminary and Co-author with Mark Driscoll of several popular books on doctrine and the church. While the passage is used to underline the sovereignty of God, Paul is primarily using it to show that God redeems through the history of the Hebrew people. “This is not saying, ‘Before either was born, Jacob I loved and Esau I hated.’”
