Gerry Breshears :: What does ‘sovereign’ mean?

  • “What does the word “sovereign’ mean?” questions Dr. Gerry Breshears, Professor of Theology at Western Seminary and Co-author with Mark Driscoll of several popular books on doctrine and the church. Sovereign is a theological, not a Biblical term. In theology, sovereign can mean either “God controls every detail,” or that “God does not give account to anybody and God does whatever he pleases.” The latter appears to be most true from a Biblical perspective. “When he makes a plan, no nation can stop it.”
