Dr. Soong-Chan Rah :: History of Christian Cultural Irrelevance

  • “Fundamentalism of the early 20th century is very much tied with dispensational eschatology,” says Dr. Soong-Chan Rah. “The perception is – in a pre-millennial dispensationalist perspective – that the world actually needs to get worse before Jesus returns.” Because many fundamentalist Christians believe that the world is getting worse according to God’s design, many fundamentalist churches have separated themselves completely from culture and given up any effort to speak into and shape culture.

The problem with basing our behavior on what we believe about the end times is that eschatology isn’t a fixed, clear-cut theological doctrine. “Our eschatology is shaped more by our culture than we allow ourselves to realize.”
