Rocket stoves are high efficiency wood-burning stoves. “It’s a really neat design,” says Dr. Robert F. Harder, Professor and Chair of the Mathematics, Computer Science and Engineering Department at George Fox University. But in places where wood isn’t available, charcoal might still be the answer. There are several organizations like Aprovecho and Burn that are researching stove technology. Stove innovation won’t do away completely with the issue of particulates and fuel economy. “The thing is, we’re still burning, so we still need the fuel chain.”
